STATION
MANAGER & PROGRAM
MANAGER - MELANIE PAGE
Regularly
introduced as the 'Queen of Tasmanian Music' at music and
radio industry functions alike, Melanie Page was destined to
make an outstanding contribution since she joined Edge on
permanent broadcast launch in 2003.
Melanie
founded Edge Radio's first dedicated Tasmanian music program Tasmusica
and in late 2003 was elected as the
station’s Chair of Programming. Melanie took to the
volunteer role with gusto, juggling hundreds of program
applications whilst implementing the stations strip
programming style to provide a unique and powerful on air
sound in our radio market.
Melanie
continued in this volunteer position through 2004 whilst
completing her Masters in Journalism & Media Studies and
her work as a News Editor for the University of Tasmania's
Radio Journalism course.
In
2005 Melanie worked as Southern Branch Manager of TasMusic -
the peak body representing the Tasmanian music industry. She
was also elected onto the Community Broadcasting Association
of Australia (CBAA) National Committee at the national sector
conference. Her development in the music and radio industry
honed her sharp communication skills and sector knowledge.
In
late 2007 Melanie took the bull by the horns and found herself
steering the good Edge Radio ship. Both challenging and
rewarding, Melanie is working to consolidate many of the
station's functions before making plans for Edge to take over
the world...in a polite, radio kind of way of course...
Other Edgers say:
"Mel knows Edge programming. She juggles the expectations of
hundreds of presenters who make over 60 diverse programs each week. She calls a spade a spade, a rake a rake and puts them
to good use in the garden".
All hail the Queen!

Vanessa will be wording the students up on community radio and
giving them the skills to get on the airwaves, before they
embark on a weekly School of
Rock program 4-5pm weekdays.
Hormones will run into overdrive as they learn how to
interview rock stars and tackle the big issues - giving youth
a voice and platform for expression.
Keep your ears peeled for our School

SPONSOR
PROMOTIONS MANAGER -
MELISSA RALPH
Melissa
is an Edge success story. Melissa was 17 in 2003 when she
started with the station's very first College radio show - Schoolies.
Her charisma and wit permeated the airwaves, and was matched
only by her enthusiasm for the station. In 2004 Melissa
commenced a combined degree in Journalism & Media Studies
and Entrepreneurship, and launched her Supersize Your Lunch
with El & Mel program with fellow 'schoolies graduate'
El (which she continues to this day). In 2005 Mel answered the
call to volunteer as a producer for the Schoolies show.
Melissa
was soon employed to take on a challenging pilot radio project
for high school (years 9&10) students. In 2006 Edge
received seed funding from the Tasmanian Community Support
Levy, and a contribution from Hobart & Elizabeth Colleges
to launch Edge Radio's
School of Rock
project. School of
Rock is the culmination of three years of work in the schools
sector, and Melissa has been a vital element in the projects
development.
In
late 2007 Melissa moved from School or Rock to take on the
very challenging position of Sponsor & Promotions Account
Manager.
Other
Edgers Say:
"She has seen both sides, as student and teacher. Now Melissa
coordinates dozens of students, teacher expectations and
school politics with a professional smile and a quip to keep
everyone calm.
She is a living example of the power of community radio to
develop young minds during their formative school years".
Plus
she sneezes like a mouse.

CO-ORDINATOR - BRADLEY DUENCE
The
newest staff member on the Edge team, Bradley has been an
integral member of the Edge team since his humble beginnings on
School of Rock at Hobart College. After accepting an invitation
to undertake an Edge Radio traineeship, Bradley's role grew
almost immediately as he ventured on to also fill the role of
Office Co-ordinator.
Bradley
multitasks reception, staff, programming & volunteer support
and music department supervision. He is nice (maybe too
nice...so don't go taking advantage OK?), and willing to juggle
pesky demands to achieve the best results for the pesker.
Other
Edgers say:

WHAT
IS EDGE RADIO?
Edge
Radio is a newly licensed community station, in Hobart, Tasmania.
As Hobart’s only youth station, Edge Radio provides a mix
of music, entertainment, local journalistic content and information
to enhance Hobart’s cultural landscape. Edge Radio broadcasts to
the greater Hobart area on 99.3fm, and web casts to the world on www.edgeradio.org.au.
WHO
IS EDGE RADIO’S AUDIENCE?
Youth
of all ages. Hobart has a richly diverse community and Edge
Radio recognises the unique needs of it's youth. Edge Radio’s core
audience is between 15-30 years.
Edge Radio’s programming is broad, and designed to reflect
the interests of Hobart. This approach caters not only for the core
audience, but has seen a substantial audience beyond this community
grow. Whilst Edge Radio remains committed to serving the needs of
our core audience, it is fast becoming a service for ‘youth of all
ages’.
WHO
ARE EDGE RADIO VOLUNTEERS?
Edge
Radio volunteers are as diverse as it's listeners. Our volunteers
share a common goal – to enhance the lives of Hobart’s
listeners.
Edge
Radio has over 100
volunteer presenters, producing more than 80 radio programs
every week. In addition to these programs, Edge Radio airs 10
hours of programs produced by College students, providing training
and radio experience for over 100 pre-tertiary students. To
date, Edge Radio has created opportunities for over 500 station
volunteers. All training and development is delivered free of charge
to our volunteers.
WHY
IS EDGE RADIO RELEVANT?
Our
volunteers represent our audience and they decide what goes to air.
They know what their peers want to hear. They are committed to
providing an appealing and relevant service. Edge Radio’s approach
ensures it remains a relevant and sustainable media outlet.
HOW
DOES EDGE RADIO SURVIVE?
Volunteers:
Contribute to every element of the station's service. Volunteers
create the media.... Volunteers ARE Edge Radio...........
Sponsorship:
We require sponsorship to pays our bills, meet our budget and keep
us on-air. Without this major source of funding, our not-for-profit
service could not survive.
Edge
Radio acknowledges our sponsors through on-air announcements,
informing listeners of sponsor services. We limit this material to
five minutes per hour, creating a core of sponsors for our listeners
to support.
Supporters:
All
listeners contribute to the station by enjoying the service and
providing feedback. Listeners can show their dedication by becoming
Station Supporters. Supporter member fees improve our service
to all listeners through programming and community events
development.
WHO
MANAGES EDGE RADIO?
Edge
Radio is managed by Tasmanian Youth Broadcasters Inc. (TYB Inc.
Trading as Edge Radio 99.3fm). Edge Radio is a not-for-profit
community radio station. TYB Board of management is democratically
elected from station membership, and constitutionally reflects
educational institutions, community organisations, and general
membership. Station staff and Programming are ex officio board
members. Sub-committees source input, advice and action from Edge
Radio volunteers, members and our community of interest.
WE
ARE STANDING ON THE EDGE…
Nothing
like Edge Radio has existed before in Hobart. Edge Radio provides a
progressive, interactive community service that has been available
in other Australian capital cities for decades.
Edge Radio is committed to enhancing Hobart’s culture by
providing a credible, not-for-profit service that fills a void in
Hobart’s airwaves.
