EDGE RADIO RECOMMENDED: Anı Lou - "Eralda"

26/6/2017

Picture
Tasmanian singer-songwriter Ani Lou has shared her debut EP 'Eralda'. It's heartfelt and honest, encapsulating layered backdrops and fluid vocals, amidst a hard-hitting storyline about yearning for freedom from the entrapment of one’s own body or mind.

Written and composed by Ani Lou through a particularly difficult patch during the artist’s ongoing struggle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 'Eralda' translates this often debilitating and isolating experience into something unimposing and melancholic.

‘I sing to come to terms with situations and challenges I have faced, and hope to find kinship with others by sharing these experiences. Like many people, music is my antidote and method for self-soothing’ – Ani Lou

The EP 'Eralda', composed of five tracks, was recorded with her four-piece band at Reel to Reel Studios with Zarven Kara. Mixed by Simon Hagström Rennestedt and Henrik Alsèr (both from Sweden), 'Eralda' carries an evident minimalistic Scandinavian influence.

EDGE RADIO RECOMMENDED: Marika Hackman - "I'm Not Your Man"

19/6/2017

Picture
East London based singer-songwriter-come-indie-rocker Marika Hackman has unleashed her anarchic second album "I'm Not Your Man". Not afraid to call out the big questions around femininity, sexual identity, millennial ennui, the pressures of living in a social media bubble and the perils of being young in a fast-paced world, MarikaHackman 2.0 is uncompromising, uninhibited, and shamelessly free.

From the opening of single "Boyfriend" you hear right away this is a raw, rockier and immediately more brazen beginning to a 13-track record. Undoubtedly, it packs a gutsier punch than Hackman’s prior output.  "I'm Not Your Man" is produced by Brit Award Winning Charlie Andrew (Alt-J, Matt Corby, Darwin Deez) and features her best mates, London quartet The Big Moon, on a number of tracks to channel some serious feral female energy.

EDGE RADIO RECOMMENDED: The Sunday League - "The Sunday League"

12/6/2017

Picture
The Sunday League's debut self-titled album is ten songs rich in Tasmanian and mainland landscapes. It's music that will take you between a comfortable front porch and the wide open road.

EDGE RADIO RECOMMENDED: Noga Erez - "Off The Radar"

5/6/2017

Picture
For Noga Erez, there was never any doubt that, whatever music she chose to make, and whatever she felt about her homeland, she could never ignore her surroundings. After all, even escapism acknowledges there’s something to escape from, and at times – like many who’ve grown up in Tel Aviv – Erez has wanted to shut herself off from a world rendered beyond comprehension by forces beyond her control. But if there’s one thing Erez isn’t, it’s naïve. And what this means is simple: her work reflects the manner in which she’s learned to live. As she puts it, “I have this idea of giving people moments of thought and inspiration, and at the same time offering escapism and fun."

Erez says of her debut album, '"Off The Radar' addresses contemporary fears of being anonymous or forgotten, and our indecent urge to leave our mark by publicly sharing thoughts and ideas without due consideration, purely for the rush we get from approval and affirmation."

Uncompromising and unpredictable, sophisticated and bold, Noga Erez is clear about her ambitions. “Our way of trying to keep in contact with our feelings and fears, and of avoiding emotional detachment about everything, is music. Human beings can come from completely different places but share a fundamental basis of emotions. In my opinion, music is the form of art or communication that expresses that most accurately.” The conversation starts now.
