Thank you to each and every one of you for your support - you're all flippin' fantastic. Have a rad holiday season (and super huge thanks to those of you that work all the way through - you are AMAZING).
It's that time of the year! We're taking a few weeks off to eat too much and just generally recuperate from what has been a MASSIVE 2018. Fresh Edge Radio Recommended releases will recommence late January - for the next few weeks we'll be spinning some of our faves from the last 12 months.
Thank you to each and every one of you for your support - you're all flippin' fantastic. Have a rad holiday season (and super huge thanks to those of you that work all the way through - you are AMAZING). Palm Springs began in 2014, previously releasing on Palm Springsteen Records. It remains a solo song-writing project for Erica Dunn (Mod Con, Tropical Fuck Storm) who, on this release, employed the help of two long time companions Paul Pirie and Steph Hughes. The project responds in spirit to deep outsider folk sentiments and recalls heroes of the genre; Karen Dalton, Pip Proud and Hopkins/Bradley to name a few references. The bulk of the tape was recorded after Dunn was accepted into an artist’s residency program in upstate New York in June 2017. To document this period of focused writing, Dunn approached NYHED studios in the Lower East Side NYC in the month that followed. Owned and operated by Matt and Rocío Verda-Ray, the small studio preferences analogue equipment and recording to tape, which suited the Palm Springs aesthetic perfectly. Seven tracks were completed in a 10-hour burst, with an aim to capture a song without overthinking or extrapolation. What results are very raw and immediate takes. Back home in Melbourne and eager to complete the project, a final song was recorded to tape at Phaedra Studios with John Lee in September 2018. Release: November 20th, 2018, Tender Collection Words: Tender Collection
