The Program seeks to express Australian Folk music as a modern – day cultural experience that has played out over time. Young Folk will identify key lyrics in each song to reflect on Australia’s cultural development. Contemporary thoughts about how the lyrics play out in the music will be noted. Interviews with song writers about their lyrics will be part of the show as it develops. The show teases away Australian Folk music from other genres to focus on what it is to be Australian – as expressed through music. This will be ‘Australian social consciousness music’, material missing from Australia’s contemporary musical landscape.
