Lead Edge Radio’s training and volunteer program

Please note deadline extended send resume and cover letter by the 15th of April

Would you like to lead our award-winning media training course while nurturing an exciting and sustainable environment for our volunteers? Edge Radio is a youth-focused community radio station broadcasting primarily to people in Hobart, Tasmania (but online to a bunch more!). We give voice to our

community by providing training to folks interested in making real live radio and broadcast quality content.

The Media Trainer/Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the station’s volunteers (Edge is 99% volunteer run!) and the related delegation of tasks and projects. This position is also responsible for the administration, delivery, and maintenance of the station’s media training, including: the scheduling of courses, school/youth group focused media training, and acting as the first point of call for training related questions for both new and existing volunteers.

About you

You’re into media. The thought of working at a radio station excites you and you’re ready to pair your training experience with that passion. But maybe you’re just super keen and need someone to give you a go. Either way, we want you to apply.

You enjoy engaging with a wide variety of people (especially young people and students) and are confident that you can deliver high-quality training under your own schedule. You’re easy going, friendly, and available to our the needs of our volunteer cohort (be it going  out for coffee, a quick email q or a long show planning phone chat extravaganza!). You really, really like talking to people. Like, a lot.

Ideally you have some time – you’re studying or returning to work, you’re honest with yourself about your capability and excellent at time management (using calendars and Gmail is a must). You can dedicate at least 12 months to this role.

And finally, you don’t just want a job. You want to be part of something, part of a close-knit group of mainly volunteer workers who understand the responsibility Edge has to the community. By doing this role, you’ll be at the heart of the organisation and will contribute to the general vibe of Edge. You walk the walk when it comes to our values.

The money

We’re not going to sugar-coat it, this won’t be your dream pay packet, plus it’s partially for commission – the more participants you get involved the better- this is a paid role but some volunteering at fundraisers, events etc may be required. But you will work when you want, how you want, and the experience you gain here will open doors.

You’ll also receive hands-on support, and the successful candidate will work alongside enthusiastic people who love music, creating stories, and making radio. You will receive mentorship in the media and not-for-profit sectors which will give you access to professional development opportunities.

If you’re still here, we’re pretty sure you’re ‘one of us.’ So welcome, please apply. CLICK HERE FOR FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

About us

We’re a volunteer-led group of eclectics, fun people who work hard for our community. As with most non-profits, the people who work with us have passion for media and uplifting marginalised peoples, especially Tasmania’s youth. We love pop-culture, music, Tasmania, and care deeply about the issues that affect our audience. We’re serious when it matters, and we hope you will be too.
