Formidable Naarm/Melbourne punk/hip-hop hybrid MUDRAT has released his highly anticipated debut album SOCIAL COHESION.
A multi-talented creative visionary, rapper, singer and writer, MUDRAT has gained acclaim for blending of punk, metal & hip-hop influences alongside passionate delivery & raw lyricism. Creating music that draws from his perspective of the world, life experience, cultural roots and political beliefs he has quickly cultivated a reputation for his versatility, raw energy & powerful live performances.
After starting as a solo artist, MUDRAT cemented his sound by forming a cohesive band, THE MISCHIEF, featuring long-time collaborator Emile Battour (Ocean Grove) on drums, Noah Sole on bass, and Javier Langham (Dancing Water) on guitar. This synthesis has allowed the project to break free from the traditional artist/beat-maker dynamic, with MUDRAT effortlessly shifting between a charismatic punk frontman and a top-tier MC.
The title of the album SOCIAL COHESION is a direct response to proposed anti-protest laws in Victoria, which are being justified under the guise of protecting “social cohesion.” This record challenges that narrative, arguing that genuine unity comes not from silence or conformity, but from facing down division and fighting for collective justice.
While the album tackles heavy themes, the core message is a call to action. The heart of the project is “MUD 25,” a track that’s both a raw scream and a direct stand for justice. It’s a powerful and direct response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, a statement that an artist’s main job is to speak the truth, no matter how hard it is.
The album concludes with “A BEAUTIFUL MESS,” which reminds listeners that while art holds power, real change happens on the ground, in the everyday actions and leadership they are capable of enacting.
