Hugh Burridge was an enthusiastic volunteer at Edge Radio for many years. Hugh volunteered across the entire spectrum of the station and was a general member of the Committee of Management, Tasmanian Youth Broadcasters Inc. He was often the first to volunteer at every fundraising event we ran during his time with us. Hugh volunteered at outside broadcasts, assisted in production, helped clean the office after a flood, would show new volunteers around the place, broke the paper shredder twice, helped find interviewees and handed out Edge flyers during Uni orientation weeks, set up for live gigs, came up with fresh ideas and would always, always have time to chat to anyone about Edge. Unfortunately, Hugh departed this Earth a little ahead of schedule in 2020 and he is greatly missed by the Edge community, so to commemorate his legacy we created the Hugh Burridge Award.
About the Award
The Hugh Burridge Award is annually given to an Edge volunteer who embodies the spirit of Hugh. The winner will have been creative, volunteered in a variety of ways, and acted as an all-around asset to the station. We’re looking for people who helped out in ways that were big and small, but with an overall focus that was community-minded, and whose efforts were bolstered by positivity and enthusiasm.
The winner is announced each year at the Edge Radio annual general meeting (AGM). They also receive a prize and an acknowledgement on our website.

Hugh would always toot his own horn, so we want you to as well! Seriously, don’t be shy. No one will know all the things you’ve done unless you tell someone. Tell us!

Hugh also loved to big-up his pals, so you can also nominate one of your peers.
Nominees must be a paid station member and have volunteered in the current year.
The form is very quick and asks you to outline how you have embodied the spirit of Hugh Burridge in 250 words. Nominations will go to a panel including office staff and volunteers, and members of the Committee of Management, Tasmanian Youth Broadcasters Inc. Any form of volunteering at Edge is appropriate to nominate for!
Nominations are open Monday 2 Nov – Monday 30 Nov with the winner announced at the AGM in January.
