Each year the award is given at the following year’s AGM. For example the 2020 winners were awarded at the 2021 AGM and so on.

The winners of the Hugh Burridge Award are:

2024 (awarded in 2025)

Oliver Orbell and Ben Kings*

After our Community Coordinator received an opportunity in Germany, Edge was left in a pickle. Thankfully Oli stepped up with enthusiasm and drive to coordinate volunteers, help presenters with any technical issues, publish newsletters, help with outside broadcasts and more. His positive attitude is contagious and we’re grateful to have Oli playing an instrumental role in our 2025 fundraiser.

Ben moved to Tasmania and stepped in as Oli took on full-time work providing critical support to our Station Coordinator (Manager) Corey. “Ben is the kind of person that will always help out. It doesn’t feel like a chore to him.” Ben also acted as Station Coordinator for a couple of weeks, filling in for Corey. Thank you for your efforts!

Yongbei Tang

Yongbei has been a presenter, volunteer and Committee member with Edge Radio for many years. Each week, she presents the Chinese Community News along with volunteers and guests. This program gives vital local information to the Chinese community in Tasmania and is popular on WeChat and other apps. We are so proud to have Yongbei as part of the Edge Radio community.

2022 (awarded in 2023)

Zeke Gaffney and Lucy Richmond

Lucy had volunteered at the station for many years in our production department. In 2022 Lucy put in a huge effort editing our audio for The Archive music project and she has really grown up with the station and shows a real skill in audio production.

We also recognized Zeke Gaffney who joined us in 2021 assisting in the office and on air! Zeke demonstrates a natural talent for local news, revamping our community news on air segments in 2022 as well and presenting on local issues on Edge Radio, we were impressed with Zeke “give it a go” attitude in all that he does at Edge.

2021 (awarded in 2022)

Taylor Lidstone and Weiling Cui

Taylor and Weiling worked on revamping the Edge Radio website. Behind the scenes, the website is hosted as part of our Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) membership. The website is more than just a website – it’s a tool to make sure we are tracking every song we play so artists can get paid. When it was time to migrate from one service to another, these two stepped up in a volunteer capacity to project manage and move an enormous amount of content – a massive achievement. Well done both!
