What is Edge Radio 99.3FM?
Edge Radio is a not-for-profit community station, in Hobart, Tasmania. As Hobart’s only youth station, Edge Radio provides a mix of music, entertainment, local journalistic content and information to enhance Hobart’s cultural landscape. Edge Radio broadcasts to the greater Hobart area on 99.3FM, and streams globally on edgeradio.org.au.
Who is Edge Radio’s Audience?
Youth of all ages. Hobart has a richly diverse community and Edge Radio recognises the unique needs of youth. Edge Radio’s core audience is between 15-30 years. Edge Radio’s programming is broad, and designed to reflect the interests of Hobart. This approach caters not only for the core audience, but has seen a substantial audience beyond this community grow. Whilst we remain committed to serving the needs of our core audience, Edge Radio is fast becoming a service for ‘youth of all ages’.
Internship opportunities
Edge Radio has some awesome media internship opportunities available, and we’re not just talking to the serious suits. We’ve got spots for students aged 15 and up, with long-term and short-term options available. Whether you’re into media and radio broadcasting, podcasting, audio production, or even the behind-the-scenes business, communications, and marketing stuff, we’ll work with you to create an internship that fits your vibe. Our internships are a mix of fun and education – providing a dynamic environment where you can learn, grow, and contribute to meaningful projects. Being a youth organisation, we understand how important it is to empower the next generation with real-world experience and skills. So, if you’re itching to dive into the internship world and snag some work experience, shoot us an email with all your questions! Youth Media Training – School of Rock!
We are Tasmania’s only youth community radio station, and School of Rock is our tailored Youth training program. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for young people to be involved in media, and our in-school and independent training sessions have been specifically designed to allow young people to share their stories and gain skills in media and storytelling. We also have opportunities for students to get involved outside of school!
The only requirement is that you are under 26 and keen to learn about radio broadcasting!
Live Broadcasts/Outdoor broadcasts
Go beyond the studio with our live outdoor broadcasts! We’re eager to collaborate with your school to broadcast school events. If this has peaked your interest, contact us for more information and let’s make your school event a radio sensation! 🎤 📡 ✨

Broadcast Training
Sign up for our Introduction to Radio Broadcasting course and unlock the exciting world of radio! This training covers essential concepts, studio equipment, and media laws, perfect for those eager to host, co-host, or produce a radio show. All station volunteers must complete this before going live with their show. It’s also open to those who want to learn about radio broadcasting without being on air. Topics include Community Radio Overview, Studio Introduction, Media Law Basics, Interview Basics, Program Planning, Program Presentation, AMRAP Pages, and Panel Operation. Held at UTAS Sandy Bay Campus, the course fee includes your first-year membership. Stay tuned for the next class date! 📻 💡 ✨
Podcast Training
Embark on your podcasting journey now with our Podcasting Classes panning four weekly online sessions! Whether you’ve dreamt of making a podcast or becoming a podcaster, this course provides practical advice and skills training to turn your ideas into a reality. Podcasting is more relevant than ever, with global superstars like This American Life and Radiolab. The course covers key topics, including Podcast Overview, Legalities, Equipment, Hosting, Planning, Constructive Journalism, Interview Basics, and Production/Editing. You’ll produce and edit a 10-minute podcast! Stay tuned for the next class date! 🎙️
