In amongst serene nature and harsh Antarctic winds, Tasmania/Lutruwita alternative rock trio Verticoli has crafted a sound that is heavy, melodic and raucous.

Formed out of high school from a shared love of 90s grunge, the band’s influences run deep and wide, from the heaviness of Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, to the songwriting of Tom Petty and Jeff Buckley, and the grooves of Led Zeppelin and Sly and the Family Stone.

Since their first self-titled EP in 2013, Verticoli have released two LPs (Punching Bag in 2015 and The Echo in 2022) and two further EPs (Free Will in 2017 and Heavy in 2021), as well as an acoustic ‘best of’ album, So Far, in 2024.

Following an intense period of songwriting, Verticoli have now released their highly-anticipated third album Silverlinings, recorded at the renowned Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne with producer Luke Cincotta (Airbourne, Jet, Karnivool, The Amity Affliction).

Silverlinings is a raw and reflective album that explores the introspective struggles of living – anxiety, loss, disconnection and frustration – while always trying to find the flickers of light within the chaos that make life worth living. Sonically, the album interlaces the anthemic spirit of 90s alternative rock, the emotional honesty of modern post-punk and hardcore, and the playful, boisterous energy that has always defined Verticoli, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and wildly unique and current.

Silverlinings came about from me trying to give some meaning to the chaos that can come about with major life changes. It’s about trying to find the up-shot when it doesn’t always seem obvious, when you’re looking for glimmers of hope to help you get through uncertain times,” says Sam Hunn, singer and guitarist.

Available on a limited vinyl run printed by Zenith Records, Silverlinings sees Verticoli working closely with local Tasmanian artists, including album art by Lewis Stadler, music videos by Creative Grit and Isaac Sargent, and photography by Matt Sansom.
