“Lutruwita/Tasmanian outfit 208L Containers have just released a blast of iridescent joy from the intense furnace of their creative minds in ‘Soft Monstrous Masses!’. Sardonic and unashamedly Australian-accented voices sing of a range of familiar and alien concepts laced with humour and a thousand yard stare, a mix of political observations with tales of the vicissitudes and absurdities of life.” – Arun Kendall, Backseat Mafia
Soft Monstrous Masses! is the 4th release from 208L Containers, who have been described as ‘absurdist rockers straddling the line between post-punk and pub rock’.
Childhood memories of the circus are of dust, crinkly sounds, farm animal odours, and hard, alien surfaces garish with stripes. The dominant impressions left of terror and extreme flexibility mean you are unlikely to willingly return as an adult. So, this album is a circus for adults that trades the above for fleshy, soft, round things that pad audibly around the house at night so as not to alarm.
Soft Monstrous Masses! was engineered, recorded and mixed by the wonderful Jethro Pickett in Glaziers Bay, Southern Lutruwita, on the ancestral lands of the Melukerdee, whose sovereignty was never ceded. It was mastered by master Mikey Young, with art direction by Richard Cuskelly and design by David Fooks.
Release: 14 November 2025, Rough Skies Records
