Naarm / Melbourne’s Pretty In Pink has released Delicates, a collection of tender, guitar-driven songs exploring love, loss, motherhood, and transformation.
Blending lo fi-pop melodies, post-punk minimalism, and indie DIY spirit, the album delivers a set of short, sharp, and emotionally resonant songs that recall the best of 1980s indie and guitar pop. Evoking comparisons to the jangling sounds of early Flying Nun and the melodicism of bands such as Black Tambourine, Delicates offers a listening experience both nostalgic and new.
Pretty In Pink is the singular creative outlet of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Claire McCarthy. Once a member of beloved Hobart trio Heart Beach, the idea for Pretty In Pink formed from songs written by McCarthy that didn’t quite fit that band. Following the release of the project’s self-titled debut album in 2021 [Eternal Soundcheck] and the acclaimed follow-up Pillows in 2023 [Little Lunch Records], Delicates marks a new chapter for Pretty In Pink, one shaped by profound personal change.
Like the garments that inspired its title, Delicates gathers together treasured pieces, each carrying its own story and emotional weight. Across its concise, carefully crafted songs, McCarthy reflects on family, grief, parenthood, intimacy, memory, and renewal. As McCarthy puts it; “This album separates the delicates insofar as it picks up the nicest, most precious pieces I’ve made since my son and daughter were born and washes them separately. Each one speaks to growing up, giving birth, gaining love and new perspectives, and saying goodbye to my parents in death and other ways.”
Delicates was written, performed, recorded and mixed by Claire McCarthy, with mastering by Casey Hartnett.
Release: June 26th, 2026, Little Lunch Records
