Super group Classic have released their delightful debut album Did You Have Fun?
Their songs are sincere, luminescent and lyrically driven, with themes that explore motherhood, grief, racism and friendship. These heart tugging concepts are counterbalanced with fun fuzzy guitar solos and bass lines, giving a nod to mid 2000s indie rock, a la Vivian Girls and Deerhunter, while creating a modern indie pop sensibility. Their interweaving harmonies and group vocals framed by rich reverb create sounds both as dreamy as Coctuea Twins and as hard hitting as The Raincoats. As five women with varying experience writing and playing music, the sound of them coming together to explore their potential is something special.
Classic is the brainchild of Melbourne’s beloved musical treasure, Ashley Bundang, who has
collaborated in bands such as Totally Mild, The Ocean Party, Ciggie Witch, Sui Zhen and Bored
Shorts over the last decade. Now based on the south coast of NSW in Illawarra, Ashley has found
connection and kinship with other local musicians, transforming Classic into a completely
collaborative project. Framed by a sonic backdrop that emanates influences from 80’s post punk,
dream pop and indie rock, Classic harks to a blazing new age of beautiful song writing and
captivating music.
Did You Have Fun? showcases the band’s collaborative magic. They have woven together an album that is tender, strong, and most importantly, fun.
