Naarm / Melbourne-based three-piece Double Vanity are all dim lighting, velvet curtains and crystal tears. The trio have released their debut album, Love to Leave You.
Double Vanity’s arrival in 2020 transported listeners into a new world they labeled ‘airportwave’, capturing their nostalgic brand of analogue sad indie disco. Double Vanity have been described as “synth crooners” by 4ZZZ FM, and their songs are where swelling guitars and lush harmonised vocals meet with layered synths for a moment of textured overexposure and a minimal pulsing rhythms.
Their most recent single, Night Moves (May 2022), is described by vocalist Zec Zechner as; “a trip into 2062, where a nuclear storm is endlessly roaring outside the window, and a single thirty-something A.I. House Bot, in kitchen apron and platinum blonde hair is burning the dinner and swirling on the kitchen linoleum in the smoke with implanted memories of the long-lost dancefloor”. Trouble Juice called the single, “a disorientating yet glamorous ride”, with music blog Austin Town Hall (USA) claiming they were “drawn to the majesty”.
During the extended lockdown, Double Vanity released an EP of remixes of their previous two singles. The Double Vanity Remixes EP features amazing producers and artists Jimmy Cass, shemale crime coven (Angel from Habits), Psychic Hysteria label-mate Astral Skulls and Mino Peric (No Sister).
Alight the escalator into the skies for an automated trajectory to a brave new world, caught in an airportwave between the arrival and departure lounge on Double Vanity’s full length debut, Love to Leave You.
Release: September 30th, 2022, Psychic Hysteria.
